The Nigeria Police Force has asked people to be careful of criminals' tactics and stay alert.
The police made the statement after capturing Olaseinde Ojo, a suspected armed robber and kidnapper who pretends to be mentally ill to attract victims, in Lagos State.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed this in a statement on Thursday.
Adejobi mentioned this while sharing other accomplishments made by the NPF in its fight against criminals.
He wrote, “The officers of the Nigeria Police Force, in their effort to combat crimes and criminality across the country, have once again achieved significant successes in various areas.
For example, our officers in Lagos State and FCT Command have successfully arrested several criminals involved in serious crimes, by intensifying their operational strategies.
One of these is the capture of Olaseinde Ojo 'm', a suspected armed robber and kidnapper at Post Office, Isokoko, who pretends to be mentally ill to approach his victims and rob or kidnap them.
Another capture occurred along Dolphin Bridge when the patrolling police officers intercepted a delivery rider identified as Samson Shina, 'm', in possession of a locally made pistol and some charms.
Additionally, officers of the FCT command conducting stop-and-search duty around Taxi Park area, Abuja, stopped a motorcycle carrying three passengers, one Usman Musa 'm' and two others, and discovered a locally manufactured Beretta pistol with 11 rounds of live ammunition in their possession.
A search of their premises also led to the recovery of $5,800 counterfeit dollar notes and other incriminating items.
In their statement, the NPF further urged citizens to remain alert and prioritize their security.
They added, “With recent reports highlighting various incidents, including thefts, defilement, and assault, it's crucial for individuals to take proactive measures.
These measures include being aware of their surroundings, particularly in unfamiliar places, and avoiding isolated or poorly lit areas, especially at night.
Furthermore, the public is encouraged to keep their belongings secure and promptly report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
The PUNCH reported in November 2023, how a traffic robber posing as a beggar was arrested by the police along Lekki expressway in Lagos.
