WILKES-BARRE — A Luzerne County jury on Thursday found Jack P. Covert, 65, guilty of sexually abusing a girl at his home on Second Street in Dallas Township, in 2017 and 2018.
Covert was found guilty of inappropriate touching of a person under 13 years old and corrupting minors after a two day trial in front of Judge David W. Lupas.
The jury took a little over two hours to reach their decision.
Assistant District Attorney Carly Levandoski, who with Assistant District Attorney Gerry Scott, prosecuted the case, stated that Covert was accused of sexually abusing a girl when she was 5 and 6 years old.
The girl was interviewed by a forensic interviewer at the Luzerne County Children’s Advocacy Center in Wilkes-Barre. The jury watched a recording of the interview.
Dallas Township Police Detective Robert J. Odgers Jr. and Dallas Township Police Officer Gina M. Kotowski testified during the trial.
Lupas set Covert's sentencing for June 11. He is currently in jail at the county correctional facility.
Attorney Ellen Mary Granahan served as Covert's legal representation.
Covert was first arrested by Dallas Township police in November 2020, for child sex crimes, as they suspected there might be more victims.
Police arrested Covert several more times as additional victims came forward with allegations of crimes.
Covert is set to stand trial for other child sex offense cases in April.
