The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, has instructed all deployed personnel at the Nigeria-Niger border to resume their duties.
Nandap issued the instruction in a statement released by the Acting Service Public Relations Officer, Mr Kenneth Kure, on Thursday in Abuja.
The instruction follows a previous directive from the Federal Government to reopen the borders between the two countries, which had been closed in accordance with the decision of ECOWAS.
ECOWAS had imposed sanctions on Niger Republic, which included the closure of land and air borders, in response to the coup that removed President Mahmed Bazoum.
However, President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, ordered the opening of Nigeria’s land and air borders with the Republic of Niger. He also instructed the immediate lifting of other sanctions against the country.
“President Tinubu has also approved the lifting of financial and economic sanctions against the Republic of Guinea,” stated a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
As a result, the CGI directed all Comptrollers stationed at States and Border Commands along the Nigeria-Niger Republic border to promptly adhere to the directive and remove all restrictions on human movement.
The CGI assured that the service would continue to facilitate safe and orderly border crossings while maintaining the integrity and security of Nigeria’s borders.
