According to the police, a Winnipeg man is facing numerous charges associated with sexual abuse and child pornography following an inquiry by the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit.
Last June, the investigation started after authorities were informed about child sexual abuse images shared on the internet. This led to a police raid on a residence on Polson Street in October 2023, during which electronic devices were taken as evidence.
Following a detailed examination of the devices, the police found several images of child sexual abuse and concluded that a male suspect had committed sexual crimes against two victims, as well as luring offenses against a third unidentified victim.
Steven Peterson, 32, was taken into custody on Feb. 29 and is facing a range of charges including sexual assault, sexual interference, inviting sexual contact with a minor, exposing himself to a minor, luring a minor using telecommunications, possessing and accessing child pornography, resisting arrest, assaulting a peace officer, and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Peterson is still in custody, and the ICE unit is still carrying out investigations. Anyone with information about these crimes is urged to contact investigators at 204-986-6172.
