The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced that Monday, March 11, 2024, will mark the beginning of Ramadan.
He explained that the decision was made after the new moon was seen in most parts of the country on Sunday, the 29th day of the Month of Shaban, indicating the start of Ramadan 1445 on March 11.
He mentioned, “We received reports from Muslim leaders nationwide and we acknowledge the moon sighting.
Abubakar urged the entire Muslim community to commence fasting on Monday according to Islamic teachings.
He encouraged Muslims to use the Ramadan period to pray for an end to insecurity in the country.
He urged all Muslims to pray during Ramadan for leaders to fulfill their responsibilities with piety.
He also advised Muslims, both in the country and beyond, to observe the fast with sincere reverence for God, while urging the affluent to support the less privileged with food during the Holy month of Ramadan.
Earlier today, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced the sighting of the lunar month of Ramadan, signaling the commencement of the lengthy Islamic fasting.
The Kingdom made the announcement through its X platform, @Haramaininfo, on Sunday.
