Based on the biography “American Prometheus” by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, “Oppenheimer” tells the story of the development of the atomic bomb through the perspective of J. Robert Oppenheimer, and a subsequent hearing on Oppenheimer’s security clearance in 1954 that questioned his loyalty to the United States.
Similar to many Christopher Nolan films, “Oppenheimer” alternates between two timelines: the linear narrative of Oppenheimer’s ascent and the formation and execution of the Manhattan project, and the political maneuverings to discredit him and his reputation a decade later.
Presented from Oppenheimer’s viewpoint, the movie also aims to capture the internal conflict over monumental advancements in science that are linked with massive destruction as Oppenheimer contemplates the future consequences of his creation.
