Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Siminalayi Fubara disagreed about politicians vying for political positions at the funeral of the former CEO of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe.
This was shown in a popular video shared on X on Saturday.
In the viral video, Fubara expressed frustration over the violence and power struggles among the political class attending the funeral.
During the burial, Fubara mentioned, "This concerns our political class, what is all this trouble about.
“You want to kill, You want to bury, what is it all about.”
In response to Fubara’s comment, Senate President Godswill Akpabio advised the Rivers governor to leave politics if he doesn't find it worthwhile.
Akpabio said, “What's this struggle all about? I will tell you.
“The struggle – we're not discussing politics. In 2006, I wanted to be a deputy governor, and the then-deputy governor told me that the office has no money, there's nothing in it. I don't know why you still insist on removing me and taking over.
“So the woman who went with me said ‘Your Excellency, then don’t wait for impeachment, just resign since there’s nothing in it'.
“And he stood up and started hitting the woman, and I told him, Your Excellency, don't hit her, she’s telling the truth. There’s nothing in the office, that's why I want it, because you’re too big for it.
“So your Excellency Governor Fubara, if there’s nothing in the struggle, don't struggle.”
The late Wigwe's remains arrived in Rivers State for burial on Friday.
The funeral service took place at the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Isiokpo in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
It's important to remember that Wigwe, his wife, and son died in a helicopter crash in California, United States of America, on February 9, 2024.
