Officers took a man into custody after he drove a car into the gates of London’s Buckingham Palace over the weekend, according to police on Sunday.
The Metropolitan Police stated that the car “hit the gates” of the royal residence at 02:30 GMT on Saturday.
The man was apprehended by armed officers at the location for suspected criminal damage and then taken to the hospital, a police spokesperson mentioned.
They also mentioned that no one was hurt, and investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances.
Security measures at Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the British royal family, are strict, with the building in the center of the capital continuously monitored by armed officers.
The palace has encountered numerous attempts of unauthorized entry in the past.
In September last year, a 25-year-old man was arrested for attempting to access the royal stables.
Leading up to King Charles III’s coronation in May last year, a man was detained for throwing shotgun cartridges into the grounds of Buckingham Palace.
In that same month, a 43-year-old man was taken into custody for driving his car into the gates guarding Downing Street, the home of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
