Sunshine Stars have achieved consecutive victories at their home ground for the first time in this season's Nigeria Premier Football League. This follows a 3-1 triumph over Plateau United during a match-day 24 game in Akure on Saturday, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Sodiq Ibrahim, who was signed mid-season, scored two goals after Yusuf Ibrahim's initial goal, while Albert Hilary scored the 11th goal of the season for the visiting team.
Plateau United goalkeeper Suraj Ayeleso made three important saves to stop Promise Awosanmi and Yusuf Ibrahim in the early stages of the game, before Yusuf Ibrahim scored in the 28th minute.
Sodiq Ibrahim completed an excellent team play to make it two goals eight minutes later.
After the break, substitute Hilary came off the bench and reduced the deficit with a long-range shot in the 58th minute.
The goal motivated the visiting team to keep pressure on Sunshine Stars, but they were defeated in the final stages by Sodiq, who reestablished Sunshine’s two-goal advantage.
Kennedy Boboye’s team now have two victories in their last three matches as they prepare to face Katsina United at home on Wednesday.
In other match-day 24 games played on Saturday, Katsina United were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Heartland, and Rivers United also ended with a 1-1 draw against Kano Pillars in Port Harcourt.
In Yenagoa, Ikechukwu Nwani’s goal in the second half secured a 1-0 win for Niger Tornadoes against Bayelsa United, marking their first away victory of the season.
