Nigerian player, Alex Iwobi, made a new record in the Premier League on Saturday by scoring a late goal for Fulham in their 2-1 defeat at the Molineux Stadium, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Iwobi reduced Wolves' lead in stoppage time with a skillful improvised goal, but there was not enough time left for the game to restart as Wolves held on after Rayan Ait-Nouri scored early in the second half, converting from Toti Gomes’ pass after Fulham failed to deal effectively with a free-kick from deep.
Nelson Semedo’s deflected shot off Tom Cairney made it 2-0 for Wolves before Iwobi scored late for what is now the latest goal scored in the EPL, according to Opta.
Iwobi's goal took his total to five, marking his highest season count in his career so far.
His previous best in the EPL was during the 2018/19 season, where he scored three times in 35 league appearances.
That season also stands as his most prolific, scoring a total of six goals and providing nine assists across 51 appearances in all competitions. Interestingly, he has already matched his goal-scoring record this season, scoring six goals in just 25 games across all competitions.
Following his return from the Africa Cup of Nations in February, the Nigeria international has been in excellent form, finding the net twice in his last four games, including a crucial winner against Manchester United in late February.
