Waterloo Regional Police have confirmed to Global News that their department has taken control of an investigation that began when a man’s body was found at a Toronto waste management facility.
Toronto officers say they found the body of an adult male on March 1 and had little information about the victim.
Waterloo police’s information officer stated on Saturday that their department has taken over the investigation because it is believed to be linked to a previous inquiry originating in the Waterloo Region.
Toronto officials initially mentioned that the homicide and missing persons units were informed, but Waterloo police informed Global News in a statement via email that this matter is not being treated as a homicide.
“We are not providing details out of respect for the investigation, but we can confirm that we are not treating this as a homicide,” stated Waterloo Regional Police.
They also indicated that there are no concerns for public safety.
