Canadian rapper Drake lost $615,000 after Anthony Joshua knocked out Francis Ngannou in their heavily promoted heavyweight match in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Joshua delivered a powerful knockout against Ngannou in the second round of the 'Knockout Chaos' clash on Friday night.
The popular musician, known for making large bets on sports, had stated on Instagram earlier that he was betting $615,000 on Ngannou to beat Joshua outright.
Drake commented, "Betting on a scary man."
Drake, along with many combat sports fans, believed that Ngannou could defeat Joshua. If the bet had been successful, it would have paid out $1.9 million.
Although Drake has experienced both big wins and losses in betting, he has become infamous for the 'the Drake Curse', with fans accusing him of 'cursing' athletes and teams after being pictured with them.
The 'curse' has affected numerous figures such as quarterback Johny Manziel, UFC fighter Kamaru Usman, tennis star Serena Williams, and even the entire Kentucky Wildcats Basketball team in the United States.
In January, the rapper lost over half a million pounds when he incorrectly supported Sean Strickland in defending his UFC middleweight championship against Dricus Du Plessis.
In 2023, one of Drake’s biggest bets was on YouTube boxer Logan Paul to knock out Conor McGregor’s training partner Dillon Danis in their Misfits Boxing fight, winning $1.3 million after Danis was disqualified in the final round for trying to choke Paul unconscious, resulting in a massive brawl in the ring.
Prior to that fight, Drake missed out on a $920,000 payout after Nigerian-born Israel Adesanya lost his UFC middleweight title to Sean Strickland.
Drake had rooted for Adesanya to knock out Strickland in their world title clash, but Strickland caused a major upset by winning on points.
