Tennis Oyinlomo Quadre, Christopher Bulus and Marylove Edwards are among the eight players chosen by the Nigeria Tennis Federation to represent Nigeria at the 13th Africa Games in Accra, Ghana, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The roster comprises four men and four women, including experienced players Abubakar Yusuf and Uche Oparaoji.
The Nigerian tennis squad for the African Games also includes Wilson Igbinovia, Adesuwa Osabuohien, and Divine Nweke.
The Nigerian tennis team is set to travel to Accra next Monday.
Team Nigeria aims to surpass their 2019 Games performance in Rabat, where they secured two bronze medals. Quadre, a Florida International University player, is looking to win a singles medal this time, having previously claimed bronze in doubles and team events.
The tennis event begins on March 16.
Meanwhile, Osabuohien, ranked 1252nd in the WTA, feels pressured to win gold in Ghana.
The US-based tennis star led the Nigerian Billie Jean King Cup team to Kenya in 2023.
She mentioned to Nigeria Tennis Live that she is adjusting to the weather in the country and is eager to shine at the African Games in Ghana.
She expressed her excitement and readiness for the upcoming event, stating, “I’m so excited and it’s another great opportunity and I’m ready to go far,” to Nigeria Tennis Live.
“Last time, we got bronze so we need to do way better and go for gold.
“Our chances are very high. We have a strong thing, most likely the same team for the Billie Jean Cup, so, we’ve all been training, talking from our different training zones. And we’re very excited to put in the work to bring back the gold to Nigeria.”
