Canada’s primary stock index edged down in late-morning trading, with declines in energy and telecom stocks, while U.S. stock markets showed varied results.
The S&P/TSX composite index decreased by 14.60 points to 21,779.96.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average rose by 93.59 points to 38,884.94. The S&P 500 index fell by 9.48 points to 5,147.88, while the Nasdaq composite dropped by 41.40 points to 16,231.98.
The Canadian dollar was exchanged at 74.25 cents US, compared to 74.22 cents US on Thursday.
The April crude contract reduced by 52 cents to US$78.41 per barrel, and the April natural gas contract declined by two cents to US$1.80 per mmBTU.
The April gold contract increased by US$15.90 to US$2,181.10 per ounce, while the May copper contract fell by three cents to US$3.89 per pound.
