It’s unclear what the Boston Celtics will do with the last spot on their roster. They might consider re-signing some familiar players who used to be their rivals in the same division. One possibility is adding Danuel House and Furkan Korkmaz, both previously with the Philadelphia 76ers .
In an article on March 2nd, Robb explained why the Celtics might be interested in House, despite highlighting his current struggle with shooting.
“He’s known for being a proficient 3-and-D player in previous years, but his shooting has been poor this season, with only a 30 percent success rate from beyond the arc.”
Robb also outlined Korkmaz’ potential appeal to the Celtics, although acknowledging his limited attractiveness.
“He’s another wing shooter who has gradually fallen out of favor with the Philadelphia team, as his weaknesses have outweighed his strengths. At 26 years old, he may be more intriguing than other older veterans on the list, but not exceptionally outstanding.
Robb also mentioned the ex-Sixer Danny Green, explaining that Green’s appeal mainly lies in what he can offer in the locker room.
“(He) has more playoff experience than anyone on this list. While his on-court contribution may be limited, he could provide valuable perspective from the bench.”
Forecasting the Addition of Danuel House to the Celtics
Danuel House continues to be a prominent free agent. Since being bought out by the Pistons, he has yet to secure a new team. House’s skill set would make him an attractive option for a team like the Celtics. Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report explained why he thinks House might end up in Boston.
“A team looking to win in the near future might consider hiring him, and the Boston Celtics could be that team. They acquired frontcourt depth (Xavier Tillman) and a backcourt prospect (Jaden Springer) at the trade deadline, but the wing rotation is still lacking depth behind Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Sam Hauser,” Buckley wrote in a February 27th article.
While House’s potential addition may not solely be for the sake of adding depth, Buckley further explained why his depth would be beneficial.
“House should have a reasonable chance of securing a place in the playoff wing mix, even if it's just as a depth option. He remains a dependable defender (71st percentile in defensive estimated plus/minus) who can finish at the rim (69.4 percent shooting inside three feet) and make catch-and-shoot three-pointers (34.3 percent).”
Neemias Queta May Secure the Final Roster Spot
The Celtics’ last roster spot may not go to Danuel House, Furkan Korkmaz, or anyone else. According to Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe, Neemias Queta could secure the final standard spot on the team.
“The source mentioned that two-way contract player Neemias Queta is still in the running to claim the last spot,” Himmelsbach reported in a story from February 29th.
As a two-way contract player, Queta can only participate in 50 regular-season games and will not be eligible for the playoffs. If the Celtics decide not to sign him, he would become a restricted free agent in the 2024 NBA Offseason.
The Celtics have previously converted players from two-way contracts to standard contracts, such as Sam Hauser. Queta may follow a similar path in Boston, but the team might wait until the offseason to ensure a long-term commitment.
