The Rivers State House of Assembly, which supports Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has given confirmation to Dagogo Israel Iboroma, SAN, as a commissioner for the State Executive Council.
The House endorsed Iboroma as commissioner when he presented himself for evaluation during a meeting at the Auditorium of the Administrative Block Building of Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday.
His approval came after the House received a letter from Governor Fubara, proposing Iboroma as the commissioner-designate, and asking for a screening process to be conducted.
The nominee for commissioner was brought to the House by the Sergeant-at-Arms, David Wariboko.
Standing before the House, Iboroma answered questions and ensured that his loyalty would be to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Rivers State Governor, and the state while fulfilling his oath of office and contributing his professional skills to enhance good governance of the State.
Following a debate on the confirmation of Iboroma, the Speaker, Victor Oko-Jumbo, divided the House for voting.
Ultimately, the House expressed confidence in the nominee and confirmed his appointment as a commissioner in the State Executive Council.
Oko-Jumbo instructed the Clerk of the House, Dr G. M. Gillis-West, to deliver the House's decision to the State Governor.
The speaker also conveyed the House's gratitude to Governor Fubara for promptly providing an alternative venue for them to continue their legislative duties.
Rt. Hon. Oko-Jumbo denounced the arson attack on the State House of Assembly chambers by criminals on the night of October 29, 2023, which led to a temporary halt in conducting House proceedings.
He mentioned, “We discovered on October 30, 2023, that certain troublemakers who meant harm for our State and its people had set the hallowed chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly on fire, causing a temporary disruption in our legislative functions.
“The Governor’s swift intervention was truly helpful, and we are thankful.”
Following the screening and confirmation of the commissioner-nominee, which was the sole agenda for the day, the House adjourned its session until Thursday.
