A former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olisa Metuh, on Sunday joined family members to commemorate the 62nd birthday of incarcerated former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu. Ike Ekweremadu.
Despite Ekweremadu’s absence, Metuh celebrated the occasion alongside Ekweremadu’s daughters and other family members.
He shared this information in a post on X.com on Sunday.
Metuh wrote, "Today, I joined the Ekweremadu daughters and some family members to celebrate the 62nd birthday of my friend and brother for life. Indeed, I am so proud of the girls, especially Sonia, who has shown remarkable strength and resilience in these challenging and most difficult times.
"We cut a birthday cake in his honor and enjoyed a delicious lunch in celebration. May the Almighty God give him peace and good health as we pray for a grand reunion in Jesus' name."
PUNCH Online reported in March 2023 that Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice, were found guilty of organ trafficking in the United Kingdom.
The couple, along with a medical doctor, Dr. Obinna Obeta, were found guilty of arranging the travel of a young man to Britain with the intention of his exploitation following a six-week trial at the Old Bailey.
In May 2023, a UK court sentenced Ekweremadu to a total of nine years and eight months imprisonment, while his wife, Beatrice, was sentenced to four years and six months imprisonment for conspiring to harvest a man’s kidney.
