KINGSTON TWP. — A New York sex offender was arrested on Saturday after arriving at a location with the belief that he was meeting a child for sexual activity.
Police in Kingston Township and Wyoming Area Regional worked together to arrest Matthew George Ronk, 49, of Hancock, N.Y., after a series of online conversations where he expressed a desire to have sex with a 15-year-old girl, as noted in court records.
A law enforcement officer posing as a mother posted an online ad seeking a male partner for her underage daughter.
Ronk supposedly responded to the ad with sexually explicit online messages, voicing concerns about arrest and online vigilante groups.
Records state that Ronk sent videos of himself engaging in sexual activity with an underage family member.
Police verified Ronk’s identity and noted his prior arrest in September 2008 for promoting sexual activity involving a child under 17 in New York.
According to court records, the online messages with Ronk grew increasingly graphic in the days leading up to his arrest on Saturday, when he arrived at a predetermined location.
Ronk was arraigned by District Judge Michael G. Dotzel of Wilkes-Barre Township on two counts of unlawful contact with a minor, and one count each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault, and criminal use of communication facility. Ronk was imprisoned without bail at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.
