The Nigeria Labour Congress locked the gates of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company in Ilorin, Kwara State on Monday, to request the reversal of the previously imposed electricity tariff.
The Labor Unions, who arrived at the IBEDC offices in Challenge and Baboko market areas in Ilorin as early as 7 am, closed the gates leading to the premises and prevented the workers and customers from entering.
Some IBEDC workers were observed lingering around the area, while others left because they were not allowed to enter the premises by the labor unions.
The Chairman of NLC in Kwara state, Comrade Muritala Olayinka, stated that the union was following the directive from the national Secretariat of the NLC.
Olayinka mentioned that the IBEDC offices would stay closed until there is a counter directive from the NLC Secretariat in Abuja.

The ultimatum was presented in a joint letter to the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, CEO, dated May 3, 2024, and sent to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, the Ministers of Labour and Power, and the electricity distribution companies, DisCos, among others.
