There was fear and violence in Orba and Eha-Alumona in Udenu and Nsukka Local Government Areas of Enugu State, as assailants targeted two members each of the Nigeria Police Force and Federal Road Safety Corps on Saturday.
The attack happened just a day after two policemen on stop-and-search duty were assaulted and killed on Friday by some gunmen in the state metropolis, less than a kilometre from the Government House.
Our reporter learned that the recent assault began at the Premier Junction at Eha-Alumona in Nsukka LG and moved on to the Army checkpoint at Orba in Udenu LG around 4 pm.
The four personnel were killed in the attack while others fled with various injuries.
The criminals also targeted and set fire to a Hilux van belonging to the traditional ruler of Egali Amalla Community in Udenu LG, Patrick Eze, also known as Igwe Waziri.
The monarch, who was reportedly caught in the midst of the attack, miraculously escaped unharmed.
The gunmen also set fire to an FRSC van during the chaos.
However, when our reporter reached out to the state Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu for comment on the incident, he stated, “I am not aware of the incident. Please contact the Police Public Relations Officer about that.”
Nonetheless, attempts to reach the command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls or text messages at the time of this report.
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State had pledged to capture the attackers who murdered two policemen on Friday using all resources available to the state government.
