The City of Dallas Development Services Department is planning to hold an information session this summer to teach developers and contractors how to effectively finish a specific part of Dallas’ long permitting process.
The department’s Q-Team, which is a fee-based, expedited plan review process that allows applicants to potentially get a permit on the same day as the review meeting, will provide information to stakeholders about successfully passing through the pre-screen. The session is set for July 1.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the Development Services Department (DSD) has faced criticism for its occasional permitting backlogs, long turnaround times, and various inefficiencies under former City Manager T.C. Broadnax, who recently left his position.
DSD has a pre-screen checklist available online that outlines dozens of possible documentation categories that must be met on any given plan submission for a permit.
The checklist states that by confirming each relevant requirement, applicants are declaring that they have provided accurate and complete information. Failure to supply the required information can lead to application delays, denials, or even discarding. A new application, complete plans, and a new checklist would be necessary for resubmission, and it would be handled as a new application, processed in the order received.
The event on July 1 will take place from 12 to 1 p.m. at DSD’s training center at 400 South Zang Blvd.
