Denver Broncos rookie QB Bo Nix had his initial official practice with his new team and met some of his new teammates.
The Broncos chose Nix as the No. 12 overall pick with mixed reactions. However, Head Coach Sean Payton endorsed Nix as their choice while the quarterback has always been enthusiastic about the partnership.
Media was absent on Day 1 of rookie minicamp. So, how did things go after Day 2?
“It’s been very enjoyable. I’ve liked getting to know all the new rookies, spending time with them, and learning about them,” Nix informed the reporters on May 11.
“It’s a step-by-step process. You have to move from one meeting to one practice, one walkthrough. Take it one at a time and absorb as much as you can, making sure not to repeat the same mistake.
“[Payton] has been fantastic. He's already taught me a lot. He possesses a lot of knowledge . And he has established a strong reputation, so when he speaks, you pay attention. I'm looking forward to continuing to learn from him more and more each day. As we go through practices and walkthroughs, you simply cannot absorb enough from him.”Payton explained that the early phase of the offseason program adjusted based on previous information.
He also mentioned that they are working on adjusting drops for Nix as he transitions from a predominantly shotgun-based offense, explaining what would qualify as a productive practice for the
record-setting former Duck Sean Payton: Bo Nix ‘Handling Install Well’.

Getty“We told him from the beginning that we are all behind. We lag behind the team in terms of both physical conditioning and mental preparation. And we won't catch up in a day or two,”
Payton shared with the reporters after the practice. “The goal is to catch up soon, in time for training camp.
managing the install effectively
“He’s fairly good practice today. He had a and he’s pushing through, he's handling it well. “The ball placement. Two or three long throws today, it's almost like watching a skilled golfer, you know? Sometimes, when you observe his game over two years, there's a patience to how he plays. The ball is released, and, I don’t want to say boring. That's not the right word. But, yes, quite sound decisions. And with each play, the efficiency and how he's functioning, all of that [adds up to a good practice].”
Nix appreciated the comparison.
“I wish I played golf the way I play quarterback,” Nix quipped. “But I think it's all part of a process and preparation, simplifying it as much as possible. Know where your attention should be, know your reads, focus on them, and then
move through it swiftly “Being around, obviously, the coaches will teach the same stuff repeatedly, and just learning it all and then executing it on the field.”.
It certainly seems like Payton wants Nix to

GettyPayton’s claims
Despite , there are doubts that Nix was the Broncos’ primary choice. Bleacher Report’s Matt Holder doesn’t see the risk-reward of feigning interest in a trade being in Payton’s favor.“There have been multiple reports indicating or directly stating that the Broncos liked Nix much more than the rest of the league did,”
Holder wrote on May 11. “The day after the first round, the team’s head coach said he “was actively involved in trying to pretend we were moving forward” in the draft … However, the BS meter says that’s a load of crap. “Why would Payton want to risk having his bluff called to increase the price tag for a team that isn’t even in the Broncos conference?”
Reports surfaced about the Broncos’ backup plans if another team had drafted Nix.
They targeted edge rusher
and were in the running for tight end Laiatu Latu Brock Bowers Indianapolis Colts. The chose Latu with the No. 15 overall pick. The Las Vegas Raiders selected Bowers at No. 13. Holder still believes we should “sell” the idea that the Broncos were as high on Nix as is being let on.
“All of this feels like a big PR campaign to hype up the guy they drafted,” Holder wrote. “Can’t blame Payton and company for trying to inspire confidence in Nix, but it doesn’t seem like the truth.
