Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State, said on Saturday that two members of its vigilante group were arrested for reportedly raping a female student of the institution.
The university's spokesperson, Olufemi Atoyebi, stated that the institution had formed an internal panel to look into the accusation.
Atoyebi mentioned that the suspects had been given to the police with a vow to impose severe punishment on anyone found guilty after a thorough investigation.
He guaranteed all concerned parties that the university would not accept any wrongdoing that could damage its excellent reputation.
A statement said, “The management of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo was shocked to receive a report on May 9, 2024, that two members of our vigilance group allegedly raped one of our female students.
“The management immediately handed over the two individuals accused of the crime to the police, and the university set up its own internal panel to investigate the accusation.
“The management wants to assure all stakeholders that ACU will not tolerate any misconduct that could damage its excellent reputation.
“Our primary goal at ACU is to raise morally upright intellectuals, and we will not allow any misconduct to distract us from our goal. Severe punishment awaits anyone found guilty after a thorough investigation.”
