The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) finished another round of Basic Agreement General Negotiations on Friday, as per a memo sent to members by the union.
This week's discussions included proposals about artificial intelligence, salaries, working conditions and subcontracting.
President Matthew D. Loeb said, “The aim of these negotiations is to make sure our contracts keep up with the fast changes in the entertainment industry. In many cases, the previous agreements' terms no longer suit our members. We are working with employers to upgrade and adjust our contracts to current working conditions.”
The negotiations are ongoing and are set to continue until May 16. Discussions for the Area Standards Agreement (ASA) will start on May 20 and go on until May 31. An extra day for ASA talks was added on Tuesday May 28 because of the Memorial Day holiday.
The latest memo, shared with TheWrap, is part of IATSE's increased efforts to keep members updated more regularly on the progress of contract talks. Hollywood labor has seen increased involvement from its members since the COVID-19 pandemic and especially during last year’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
If IATSE and AMPTP come to an agreement on the Hollywood Basic and Area Standards Agreements in the next few weeks, the next union expected to start negotiations would be Teamsters Local 399. Like IATSE, it has stated that it would not extend the July 31 expiration date on its current contract.
Overall, ASA negotiations will address issues such as salary raises, pension and health contributions, artificial intelligence (AI), quality of life conditions, job security and benefits funding.
