Universal has announced that the Jordan Peele-produced “HIM,” previously known as “GOAT,” will come out on Sept. 19, 2025. The movie features Marlon Wayans, Tyriq Withers, Julia Fox, Tim Heidecker, Jim Jefferies, and hip-hop artists Guapdad 4000 and Tierra Whack in their first feature film appearances. Justin Tipping is the director.
The script for “HIM” was penned by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie and landed on the Black List of top unproduced screenplays in 2022. Described as “an anti-sports horror movie” on the title page, “HIM” “focuses on a talented young football player who is invited to train at the secluded headquarters of an aging QB1 from a renowned team,” according to the official overview. Wayans plays the iconic quarterback, while Withers portrays his protege.
“HIM,” described by Universal as “a chilling journey into the core of celebrity, power and the quest for superiority at all costs,” is produced by Peele, Ian Cooper, Win Rosenfeld, and Jamal M. Watson for Monkeypaw Productions. It is executive produced by David Kern and Kate Oh of Monkeypaw.
Peele’s untitled fourth film as a writer-director was previously scheduled for Christmas Day 2024. The movie was removed from the schedule due to labor strikes last year and has not been rescheduled yet (Universal quickly filled the date with Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu” from Focus Features).
Monkeypaw recently released Dev Patel’s heartfelt action thriller “Monkey Man,” and Peele is also involved in a mysterious new Hideo Kojima project. He has hinted at returning to the world of “Nope,” his 2022 hit that has already inspired an attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood. In an interview with the New York Times, Peele said, “I do think they will get more answers on some of these things in the future. We’re not over telling all of these stories.” Peele also has a remake of Wes Craven’s modern classic “People Under the Stairs” in the works.
“HIM” will be out in theaters on Sept. 19, 2025.
