Popular shows “The Bear,” “Bluey,” and “The Last of Us” are among the winners of the 84th Peabody Awards. The ceremony, which will be hosted by actor and comedian Kumail Nanjiani, will also recognize the “Star Trek” franchise with its Institutional Award.
This year’s 34 recipients of the esteemed award were revealed on Thursday, in anticipation of the 2024 awards ceremony on June 9. The victorious TV programs also include “Fellow Travelers,” “Jury Duty,” “Somebody Somewhere,” and “Dead Ringers.” In the film category, a Peabody was given to the Sydney Sweeney-starring “Reality.” In the realm of documentaries, honors were given to “20 Days in Mariupol,” “Judy Blume Forever,” “All the Beauty and The Bloodshed,” and “Bobi Wine: The People’s President.”
In addition to the recognition for “Star Trek,” “Last Week Tonight” received its third Peabody and “Reservation Dogs” won its second Peabody. The inaugural Peabody Global Impact Awards will be presented to WITNESS, an international rights group that aids citizens worldwide in safeguarding human rights through the use of video and digital technology.
The Peabody Awards states that its mission is to honor “excellence in storytelling that reflects the social issues and emerging voices of our time,” according to its website.
