President Bola Tinubu has confidently stated that Nigeria will be able to produce its own food during his time in office.
The president confirmed that after receiving the traditional title of Jagaban Borgu in Niger about 20 years ago, he is committed to supporting the state's efforts in rapid development.
Tinubu shared this information on Thursday during the groundbreaking ceremony for the 84km, N169.7 billion Bida to Minna road construction in Kakakpagi, Katch Local Government Area of the state.
He urged leaders of other subnational entities to follow the impressive progress of the Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago.
The president, represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, promised that the Federal Government will continue collaborating with states that bring development to their people, and assured that Nigeria will achieve food self-sufficiency during his leadership.
Tinubu said, "In order for governments at all levels to progress, there must be good relationships. The Federal Government will assist Niger in achieving the prosperity it desires. Nigeria will be self-reliant in producing food during my leadership. Road construction will save lives and create opportunities for greater economic development."
The president commended the first-class traditional ruler and chairman of the State's Council of Traditional Rulers, the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, for maintaining peace in his domain.
Tinubu mentioned, "As a traditional title holder of Jagaba Borgu for about 20 years, I am also a son of Niger and will be involved in any initiatives that benefit the people of the state."
In his speech, Governor Mohammed Bago stated that the construction of the Bida Minna Road fulfills a promise.
"As outlined in our agreement with the people of Niger under the New Niger Agenda, this groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of the construction of the 84km standard dual-carriageway with street lights, interchange, and underpass at both ends of the road, fulfilling a promise.
"This project holds significant economic importance for us as a state. As a result, the groundbreaking ceremony we are witnessing today signifies a shift from the past practice of mere verbal commitments.
"This showcases our dedication to constructing top-notch road infrastructure that will withstand the test of time, positioning Niger as a benchmark for infrastructure and socio-economic development in Nigeria.
"We are determined to alter the negative narratives in line with our ambitious New Niger Agenda," he stated.
