The police in Nasarawa State have detained five men suspected of raping people in the Karu and Doma Local Government Areas of the state.
The state's Police Commissioner, Umar Nadada, revealed in Lafia on Thursday that a total of 33 suspects had been arrested for committing different crimes across the 13 LGAs of the state.
He listed their offenses to include rape, armed robbery, kidnapping, banditry, and impersonation, among others.
The CP specifically mentioned the case of a suspect who allegedly sexually assaulted two young girls, aged 13 and 14, but was apprehended after diligent efforts by officers of the command.
He stated, 'Recently, Police officers at Mararaba ‘A’ Division apprehended Victor Jonathan AKA Korea for sexually assaulting two girls aged 13-14 years.
“Initial investigations revealed that the girls were sent on an errand. While returning, the suspect collaborated with his friend and forcibly took the girls to an unfinished building in Angwan Gwari, Kabayi Area of Karu LGA where he had unlawful sexual intercourse with them.'
CP Nadada also presented another suspect who allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl in the Karu LGA of the state.
He also said, 'Additionally, Police officers arrested Stephen Arigu Namo ‘M’ of Tudun Wada, Mararaba following a complaint that the suspect visited the residence of Sale Magaji at Aku Village, Base one Mararaba under the pretext of delivering his 17-year-old daughter from a spiritual problem, but ended up having unlawful sexual intercourse with her.'
He mentioned that the suspect had confessed to the crime and is currently under investigation by officers of the command.
While acknowledging that other suspected rapists were apprehended in the Doma LGA of the state, the Commissioner of Police explained that he had instructed all 33 suspects to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia, after which, they would be prosecuted in court.
