The governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, paid a visit to the Assembly Residential Quarters where Martin the Amaewhule led lawmakers conduct legislative business on Thursday.
This place is situated along the Aba Road area of Port Harcourt, the capital of the state.
The purpose of the governor’s visit was not known at the time of reporting because the 27 lawmakers did not have a session today.
For about six months now, the governor has been in conflict with the house, which is mostly made up of members loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike.
A video that went viral and was viewed by our reporter captured the moment when the governor, dressed in blue jeans, a light green T-shirt, and a matching cap, walked around the quarters with a group of security personnel and some of his assistants.
After a brief stroll within the enclosed buildings, Fubara signalled to his aides and others to return with a hand gesture, and then he promptly got into his SUV and departed.
This development occurred following the call by the Chief Tony Okocha-led caretaker committee of the All Progressives Congress for the 27 lawmakers to initiate the governor's impeachment.
Additionally, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in the State, headed by its Chairman, Allwell Ihunda, supported the request for the Governor's impeachment.
Ihunda, who is also the Chairman of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, alleged on Wednesday during a media briefing that Fubara withheld local government allocation for April without justification.
