A recent legal charge has surprised the Krum Independent School District as former band leader Carol Turner, who is 60 years old, is accused of a total of 11 child sexual abuse offenses.
The accusations, which occurred between 1996 and 1998, consist of nine instances of inappropriate behavior with a child involving physical contact and two counts of assaulting a child sexually.
Turner, who worked at Krum ISD since August 1991, was officially charged on May 1. She was later booked taken into Denton County Jail on May 3 but released on the same day after posting a $50,000 bond.
The accused, who had various roles including overseeing fine arts programs, played a significant part in the district's extracurricular activities, according to Texas Scorecard. She was known for leading an after-school “Cool Cats Piano Club” for elementary students and offering private flute lessons, as seen on her Instagram account. presence In response to the charge, Krum ISD Superintendent Jason Cochran released a statement highlighting the district’s dedication to student safety:
Krum ISD acknowledges the recent grand jury charge and subsequent arrest of former employee Carol Turner, who has been unaffiliated with the district since July 2023. Although the reported events took place several decades ago, Krum ISD takes these accusations very seriously. The safety and well-being of our students continue to be our top priority.
Cochran further explained the district’s actions upon learning of the victim’s disclosure, stating that Turner was immediately placed on administrative leave and prevented from entering any Krum ISD properties or participating in any school events or activities associated with the district.
“We are fully committed to collaborating with authorities throughout this process and ensuring a safe learning environment for all members of our school community,” stated Krum ISD at the end of its announcement.
Turner holds a master's degree in Music Education from the University of North Texas in 1993, according to Scorecard. Despite her initial one-year teaching certification expiring in 1988, she obtained a permanent Texas teaching
for all-level music in 1989. certificate As of May 8, the State Board for Educator Certification records indicate that Turner is currently
