The latter part of the Philadelphia Eagles‘ 2023 season deeply impacted the team.
After losing five of the final six regular season games and being defeated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wild Card round despite a 10-2 start, the Eagles dismissed offensive coordinator Brian Johnson, and considered potentially hiring Bill Belichick to replace head coach Nick Sirianni. . Gainwell stated, “I think it was a connection issue. Teams like KC are well-connected, upstairs and downstairs. When you have a connection, everything just clicks. But when you got guys that aren’t talking to each other, you never know what’s going on.”, opened up Gainwell’s revelation about locker room and culture problems aligns with what sources across the league noticed about the Eagles’ descent from NFC East leaders to postseason road competitors. Gainwell suggests that breakdowns in communication ultimately led to the Eagles’ downfall. Gainwell mentioned, “If we all sit down and communicate and figure out what’s happening, or what we need to do on the field to turn things around, then we’ll be fine. Because if we played really hard at the start of the season, we need to continue that effort at the end because that's what really counts. “If we reach the playoffs and we’re not playing well, and we’re feeling down because we just lost five games, what do you think will happen in the playoffs? It’s scientific, bro. If you’re moody every day, you’ll be moody tomorrow and the next day. You have to work on it. You have to keep working on how to improve every single day.”
During this offseason, the Eagles
have been one of the more active teams in free agency
by adding talented playmakers and veteran leaders.
Philadelphia acquired running back Saquon Barkley , linebacker and former safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, among other notable additions, in hopes of strengthening a culture that can prevent a repeat of last season’s breakdown.
