A new factional Speaker named Victor Jumbo has been chosen by lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Jumbo is one of the four lawmakers who support the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, since the beginning of the political crisis in the state.
After President Bola Tinubu intervened to reconcile the rift between Fubara and his estranged political mentor, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, the former factional Speaker, Edison Ehie, who led the pro-Fubara lawmakers, resigned from the Assembly.
Fubara later appointed Ehie as the Chief of Staff at the Rivers State Government House.
Jumbo represents the Bonny Constituency in the state House of Assembly.
An undisclosed source at the Government House in Port Harcourt, who was not authorized to speak publicly, confirmed the news to our correspondent over the phone.
The source confirmed the news of Victor Oko Jumbo's emergence as the new Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, stating, “His colleagues elected him during their session in Port Harcourt this afternoon. That's all I can say for now.”
