The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, on Monday accused the suspended members of bringing native doctors to the house to perform rituals.
accused the suspended members of the assembly of bringing traditional healers to the building to do ceremonies.
The three lawmakers, Donald Okogbe, PDP, Akoko-Edo, Addeh Emankhu Isibor, APC, Esan North-East I and Iyamu Bright, PDP, Orhionnwon II were suspended over alleged plot to impeach the speaker and other principal officers of the assembly through magical means.
“They are being influenced to cause chaos in this House by planning to change the leadership of this house. But to God be the glory, they were exposed.
“They brought in a spiritualist into the Anthony Enahoro Complex and placed superstitious items.
“They brought a healer into this House of Assembly premises to bury some charms in the area by 1am in the morning without knowing that the CCTV cameras will expose their night-time act,” the Speaker alleged.
One of the suspended lawmakers Okogbe is an ally of the impeached deputy governor, Philip Shaibu and was the only lawmaker that did not sign the petition that led to Shaibu’s impeachment.
PUNCH reports that problem started in the house with move to impeach Shaibu which pitched the lawmakers against one another.
Though the difference was not on party line, the house eventually got the needed signatures to commence the impeachment.
On April 8, Shaibu was eventually impeached after the panel set up the state Chief Judge, Daniel Okogbowa found the former guilty of revealing official secret and perjury.
However, the drama moved to the floor of the assembly on Monday when Agbebaku said the trio were suspended indefinitely.
He alleged that they were being influenced by external forces to cause chaos and remove the leadership of the house.
In the ensuing rowdy session, the three suspended lawmakers were seen screaming, “Mr Speaker, you do not have the right to unilaterally suspend any member(s) of the house.
“You must call for votes. Allow members to vote on the matter,” they shouted.
The speaker thereafter adjourned the plenary abruptly.
