A brief period of severe heat is anticipated in North Texas this week.
If the prediction is accurate, North Texas will experience its hottest day of the year. The National Weather Service anticipates the heat index values to rise as high as 97 in Dallas on Wednesday. However, the intense heat will not last long. By Thursday, a cold front will arrive, bringing the temperatures back to a more comfortable level in the area.
Dallas will experience a low of about 72 on Tuesday evening, with increasing cloud cover. Winds will intensify, with gusts reaching up to 20 mph.
During Wednesday’s surge of heat, there will be a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms starting in the afternoon. Otherwise, anticipate partly sunny conditions with a high near 90. Wind gusts could reach as high as 25 mph.
Wednesday evening, the possibility of showers and thunderstorms continues. Skies will be mostly clear, with a low around 68. Thursday, temperatures will drop, with an expected high of 80.
Despite being accustomed to heat, near-triple-digit temperatures are uncommon at this time of year for Dallas. In May 2023, the City’s average temperature was 75.6.
June, July, and August, however, are a different story.
In the summer, the City’s average temperature is just over 95. As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Dallas is the fifth hottest large City in the Lone Star State. El Paso ranks No. 1 with an average summertime temperature of 97.6, followed by Austin, San Antonio, and Fort Worth.
The highest temperature ever recorded in the Dallas-Fort Worth area was a scorching 113, which occurred over two days, June 26 and 27, in 1980.
