Renowned Nigerian actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo, also known as RMD, has said that his wife, Jumobi Adegbesan, is the best in the world.
Mofe-Damijo shared this during his appearance on the ‘Teju Baby Face Show’ on Sunday.
The actor explained that dealing with the loss of his first wife was tough, and he never expected to be able to overcome the pain.
When asked how he coped with the loss of his first wife, RMD referred to Jumobi as his main source of strength and support, emphasizing that she understood her role as his wife.
He referred to her as the core of his existence.
He expressed, “She is the core of my being. She's the reason I can endure. I have the best wife in the world, and that's why I can go out and have fun, because I know who supports me.”
Mofe-Damijo stated that despite the possibility of discouragement from his actions, she unwaveringly stood by him.
He added, “I have made some foolish decisions but she also knows that I am regretful and a work in progress. As I said, if your wife doesn’t feel that you are also taking responsibility for the partnership, she won’t be the woman you desire. I always pray that I am the man she wants. Before we got married, I always told her that I didn’t think I deserved to marry her and she would say it was okay. I would joke that if you change, I will kill you. She was so good.
“I was a young man who had just lost his wife and everyone wanted me to remarry. She would come to the house and meet 10 women. Then I would look at her and tell my younger brother to take her home and I would tell her to go home. She would just turn around and leave. When everyone left, I would tell my brother to call her to come back and she would turn right back. Then I would be like, why are you so oblivious, why don’t you say something?”
He also mentioned that her kindness initially gave him a pause before marrying her.
“I was really afraid to marry her because she was too nice and I kept telling her, ‘I hope you won’t change when we marry’. Even at the lowest point in my life, when I looked at her and apologized, she would say, ‘I have nowhere I’m going. That doesn’t provoke me to want to sin more, but it increased my responsibility to be more cautious,” he commented.
He added that his relationship with his wife was treated as a partnership from the start, which is what led to his current happiness.”So, it is a partnership. If you don’t provide anything to make me feel like I am a part of the union, then if I see you kissing along the corridor, I will feel very bad and not pretend that I didn’t see you. I will say that is what you love to do because that is what defines you.
“The first time I made the biggest money in my life, I told my manager to deposit the money into my wife's account. When she received it, she asked what it was for and I told her it was for her,” he declared.
On why he gave her the money, he said, “Because I had to show her that that was the biggest money I made in my life. I could buy a car or go on vacation, but I just said this is the person that made it possible. And the typical her was not flattered.
“That used to upset me when we first started. When I travel and return with two suitcases and she has filled one and a half, she just tells me to put them there. Then I will ask if she likes the items and she will say yes, she likes them.
This is not the initial occasion Mofe-Damijo publicly admires his wife for her role in his career advancement.
In 2021, he praised Jumobi sacrificed her fame for their marriage.
He said, “I can’t believe we are 21 years today! My Abike, my Abk, my Abik, strong and courageous.”
