A former Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, has accused the former President Muhammadu Buhari's government of having many manipulations and fraudulent approvals.
Shittu revealed this during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday.
“There were many manipulations, and we heard that many of the approvals did not come from President Buhari,” Shittu mentioned.
Shittu, a former lawmaker in the Second Republic, served as minister between 2015 and 2019 under Buhari.
In response to claims that the past government printed excess money, he revealed that people close to the ex-president manipulated things to their advantage, causing a crisis in the country’s economy.
Shittu said, “There were a lot of manipulations and fraudulent approvals which did not come from the President.
“I am confident that a lot of it did not get his attention.
“There were a lot of people around the President who took advantage of their relationship with him and conspired with the then-CBN governor.”
The former minister, however, called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to intervene and ‘investigate properly.’
“I hope the EFCC will thoroughly investigate how these things happened without the President's knowledge,” he concluded.
It was recently stated by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, that many approvals for releasing funds within the Central Bank of Nigeria under Godwin Emefiele did not have the immediate past President’s signature.
Emefiele was first appointed as CBN governor by President Goodluck Jonathan but was retained by Buhari, who renewed his tenure at the apex bank.
