The Department of State Services has supposedly taken into custody the sought-after ex-leader of the Oyo State Park Management System, Mukaila Lamidi, commonly known as Auxiliary.
The PUNCH reliably learned that Auxiliary was detained around 4:00 pm on Tuesday at his home in the Olodo area of Ibadan, the state capital.
Though the reasons for his arrest are still unclear, a source who spoke to our correspondent anonymously mentioned that it was due to an interview he gave on Saturday, May 4, in which he accused Seye Famojuro, a close ally of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of being responsible for his problems.
In the interview with journalist Ajibola Akinyefa in Yoruba, the former PMS chairman stated, “If he (Famojuro) is the governor or Seyi Makinde is, we will know. It is just a matter of time. Everybody will face the consequences of their actions. The people he chose to manage the park are cheating themselves.
When asked if his violent behavior led to his removal, Auxiliary questioned how many people had reported him to the police for beating them.
He also mentioned that Seye would eventually return to Ijesha because Ibadan is not his hometown.
“Seye will still go back to Ijesha because Ibadan is not his town. Only Governor Seyi Makinde and I will remain here because we won’t run away. And I see that the bird is not working, but God feeds it. Seye will reap the seeds of his actions,” he added.
In May 2023, Auxiliary was apprehended after his loyalists were allegedly involved in an attempt to cause trouble in the state following the dissolution of the PMS committee by Makinde.
A reliable source speaking to PUNCH Metro mentioned that the police acted swiftly to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the state, and Lamidi escaped during the raid, leading to his being declared wanted.
The source, who wished to remain anonymous due to concerns about harassment, stated, “From what we gathered, the police acted based on information that some members of the Auxiliary’s group wanted to cause trouble due to the government disbanding their operations in the state.
“So, the police took proactive measures, raided their location, made some arrests, and seized some arms and ammunition. However, Auxiliary was not arrested. Those who were detained were linked to an attempt to cause trouble in the state today.”
However, efforts to contact the spokesperson for DSS, Peter Afunnaya, were unsuccessful as he did not answer several calls or respond to text messages.
