Before the 2027 general elections, the Lagos PDP is making plans to reconcile its members and take power from the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state.
According to Chief Olabode George, a leader of the party, during an interview on Arise TV's Newsday, the party is working on reconciliation.
Since performing poorly in the 2023 general elections, there has been discord among party members.
Even after a committee was established to settle disputes, the party crisis continued.
In February 2024, Dr Adetokunbo Pearse, a PDP chieftain in Lagos, attributed the party's poor performance to a lack of unity in the Lagos chapter.
Dr Pearse also mentioned that the party's functioning in the state has been affected because its structure is weak and lacks a leader to unite members.
After several indoor meetings, the party stakeholders held a reconciliatory meeting last Wednesday to organize the state chapter for the 2027 general election.
During the stakeholders’ meeting in Ikeja, the party leaders emphasized the need for forgiveness and unity to improve the party’s chances in the upcoming elections.
Highlighting the efforts made to unite the party before the 2027 elections, a party stalwart expressed optimism about the progress.
He acknowledged that there are still some aggrieved members to be addressed, but the reconciliation process is making meaningful progress.
He mentioned that after losing an election, it's common to have turmoil but the party must bring everyone together for a detailed analysis of what went wrong. He also talked about identifying loyal party members and those who didn't perform well, as well as those working for the opposition.
He expressed satisfaction with the recent meeting in Ibadan, chaired by the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, and leaders from the Southwest states. He commended the leaders for rising above pettiness and the actions of those striving for party positions.
George further confirmed that efforts to position the party for the 2027 general elections have been successful so far.
He mentioned that the national, NEC, and caucus meetings were successful, and reconciliation committees have been set up, especially in Lagos, with great success.
Yesterday's event in Ibadan was very successful, and I hope that in the next few months, people will see the unity. Without unity, a General will be defeated in war, just as we will be defeated in elections if we are not united.
The people in Lagos are tired and looking for an alternative. If they see that we are a united group, they will want to see how we can govern ourselves. Some candidates who received a lot of money have caused discord, but the national leaders have allowed us to start fixing this.
At the Ibadan meeting, George mentioned that they were able to unite the leaders in Ondo, and this will be reflected in each state.
The party's leadership is determined to take power from the ruling APC in 2027.
We are committed to moving forward, even if only a few members remain in the party. The public can see that we are managing ourselves well.
Even the ruling party has its problems. In any organization, there will be different opinions, but the leaders must respect the constitution and work accordingly.
People may have various interests, but they should follow the rules. By doing this, there should be no issues,
