The House of Representatives Committee on Student Loans, Scholarships and Higher Education Financing, has praised and celebrated Mr Jim Ovia, the founder of Zenith Bank Nigeria Plc, on his new role as the Chairman of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu appointed Ovia the Chairman of NELFUND on Friday, April 26, 2024, following the law signed on April 3, 2024, which gives the President of Nigeria the power to appoint the board and management of the Fund.
In a letter dated May 2, Chairman of the Committee, Adegboyega Isiaka, expressed his admiration for Ovia's leadership and intelligence over the years, emphasizing that his expertise will lead the scheme to greater success.
The letter stated, “We, the House Committee on Student Loans, Scholarships and Higher Education Financing, are pleased to congratulate you on your appointment as Chairman of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund by His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, in accordance with Section 7 (1)(a) of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund Act of 2024.
“Your impressive career showcases forward-thinking leadership and dedication to excellence, particularly in the financial sector.
“As an experienced professional with exceptional intellect and ambition, your proven strategic thinking and management ability make you highly suitable for this important role.
The letter added, “The Fund and its board will undoubtedly benefit from your financial expertise and visionary skills, and with your guidance, gain renewed focus to fulfill the mission of ensuring accessible higher education for all students, regardless of their financial circumstances.”
Isiaka, representing Egbado North/Imeko Afon Federal Constituency, Ogun State, pointed out that strong leadership and integrity are crucial for the Fund to achieve its goals.
“Expanding access to higher education funding has significantly contributed to the socio-economic development of nations. For this initiative to succeed and be sustainable, strong leadership with technical expertise, innovation, passion and integrity is essential – qualities that you embody.
