The Raiders shouldn't have a problem with his speed. Las Vegas Raiders are boosting their wide receiver options this season. They have signed Tre Tucker and signed Lideatrick Griffin as an undrafted free agent, and both players are fast runners.
The Raiders are not done adding speed. The team made an announcement on May 6 about signing a former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver named Jalen Guyton.
Guyton played with the Chargers for five seasons after initially signing with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He did his best in 2020 and 2021 when he had 511 receiving yards and then 448 receiving yards.
But his performance dropped in the last two seasons. He only played in 11 games and got 153 receiving yards. His injuries caused his decline in the past two years, but he seems to be healthy now.
General manager Tom Telesco must be a big fan of Guyton. He kept him on the roster for five seasons in Los Angeles and is now bringing him over to Las Vegas. He’s going to be a player to watch in training camp as he could sneak his way onto the roster. He may need to beat out Michael Gallup but could also be a good candidate to make the practice squad if there’s not enough room for him on the active roster.
Are Las Vegas Raiders Done Adding WRs?
It seems that wide receiver is becoming one of the strongest positions on the Raiders roster. Davante Adams is the main player in the group, and Jakobi Meyers is one of the top No. 2 wide receivers in the NFL. Gallup previously had a 1,000-yard season and should be a good No. 3.
Tucker is the fast deep threat, and Guyton can also offer that if he makes the team as he ran a 4.39 40-yard dash before he entered the NFL. The only worry is that the team doesn’t seem to have an established and experienced slot receiver. They let go of Hunter Renfrow this offseason and haven’t found a replacement.
That might be because first-round pick tight end Brock Bowers might get a lot of playing time as a slot receiver. Adams is also known for making many plays in the slot. Additionally, Meyers often played in the slot when he was with the New England Patriots. Although the Raiders don’t appear to have a dedicated slot receiver, they have several players they can rotate in that role.
Davante Adams Discusses Growth of Wide Receivers in NFL
Wide receiver is gaining more importance in the NFL, and there is no shortage of talent. Every year, there are numerous very good wide receivers emerging from the draft. Adams recently talked about how the wide receiver position has evolved over the years.
“I love it,” Adams said about the abundance of talented wide receivers entering the NFL on the April 30 episode of “The Rush.” “When I first entered the league, and just before that, I feel like there were only two or three players who consistently dominated. Every year, it’s a new guy now, whether it’s a rookie or someone who has been in the league for two or three years, coming out of nowhere. You have a player who may have moved around on a few practice squads, getting playing time, and then going for 150 yards. These things happen more frequently now than they used to. It’s definitely more of a passing game.”
