The ruling All Progressives Congress has rejected the idea of a potential problem within the group supporting its candidate for governor in Edo State.
This information came from the National Legal Adviser of the APC, Prof Abdulkareem Kana during his appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Senator Monday Okpebholo received 12,433 votes, defeating Dennis Idahosa, Dr Blessing Agbomhere, and nine other competitors on February 22 to become the Edo APC governorship candidate.
Even though Idahosa had initially refused to accept the result and requested a new election, the ruling party confirmed that the disagreement was resolved when he was selected as the running mate to the Edo candidate.
Talking on Channels Television on Monday, Kana revealed that since the ruling party hasn't been officially given any court papers, such claims will continue to be seen as guesses.
The national legal adviser also rejected the suggestion that the Edo APC was experiencing internal conflicts.
He noted, “The Edo primary has concluded and we are getting ready for the governorship election. The party in Edo State has chosen a candidate to represent us for now. We almost had one or two individuals who took the matter to court. However, they have withdrawn and submitted a notice to end the cases.
“At this time, we do not have any legal matter in court related to the election. All the problems have been resolved, particularly after the prompt and effective intervention of Mr. President who settled all the different factions within the party in Edo.”
