Uchechi Kanu, the spouse of the head of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has praised Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represents Anambra South Senatorial District, for helping her visit her husband at the Department of State Services facility in Abuja.
On a live broadcast on Radio Biafra on Sunday, Mrs. Kanu revealed that she went to see her husband on April 16, after the DSS officials had denied her multiple times.
Kanu has been held at the DSS detention since he was brought from Kenya in 2021 for allegedly violating his bail conditions in 2017 when he left the country.
Speaking during the live radio show, Mrs. Kanu, who spoke to some Igbo people in the United Kingdom and other parts of the world, said she had been repeatedly denied access to her husband until last month when she reached out to Senator Ubah, who promptly helped her visit.
She stated that she knows many Igbo leaders are sincerely worried about her husband's unjust imprisonment and are silently working to help him regain his freedom.
She said, “I want to take this opportunity to thank Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who promptly facilitated my visit to my husband in DSS custody. I appreciate you, sir.
“I appreciate other Igbo politicians, governors, and political office holders who are concerned about my husband's situation. Many of these leaders are troubled by his wrongful detention and are quietly aiming to arrange a round table discussion for his release. I am grateful to them.”
Ubah also confirmed to journalists on Monday that he assisted Mrs. Kanu in visiting her husband when he learned that she was having trouble doing so.
He said, “Yes, she was in Nigeria and she approached me, telling me that she needed to see her husband but was facing difficulties, so I immediately got involved. I also went to see her husband with her and Barr. Ejiofor. She met with her husband at the DSS facility on April 16.”
