After Multichoice, a broadcasting company, raised its prices in Nigeria, many people are looking for a better alternative.
When Multichoice introduced its new offerings, there was outrage from the public online, with many saying the price increase came at the wrong time.
Kelvin Odanz, who tweets as @MrOdanz, advised Nigerians to explore other options instead of complaining about the increase.
“If you can afford stable Internet, there are many other services you can use besides DSTV. For football and entertainment. Besides football, there's not much on DSTV. Explore these options and stop complaining.
“I am not a fan of DSTV at all. Besides football, there’s basically nothing there. But this outrage over them raising their price is quite hypocritical. Everyone has raised the price of their goods/services. Even small businesses. So why shouldn’t DSTV do the same?” he tweeted.
While some are still upset about the increase, some social media users are seeking a cheaper alternative to DSTv.
Many suggested SLTv as an affordable alternative providing the same service as DSTv.
SLTV is a leading satellite television company operated by Metro Digital Limited based in Nigeria.
Metro Digital SLTV offers over 50 HD channels with 10 Sports channels showing live football matches from various leagues with a monthly subscription ranging from N5,000 to N2,500.
A. Ayofe, who tweets as @abdullahayofel, said SLTv is the best alternative for DSTv, noting that it is cheaper and offers the same service.
A. Ayofe wrote, “Let me be honest in my review of SLTV. 1. If you love football then SLTV is for you. If you have kids who only watch cartoons then SLTV is for you. If you have a wife who loves Telemundo and Zeeworld then SLTV is for you. If you enjoy local TV news stations then SLTV is for you. If you like CNN and ALJEZERRA then SLTV is for you.
“If you enjoy Yoruba and English epic movies then you can manage it for now. If you love American action movies then SLTV is not for you. If you prefer crystal clear pictures then SLTV is not for you. If you can manage 80 percent picture quality then SLTV is for you.
“If you love music then SLTV is not for you. If you are tired of DStv and you want to switch then SLTV is the best option for you. Note: for football lovers, SLTV's matches are a few seconds late compared to DStv, but I don’t think that's an issue since I am saving like 25k due to the slight delay.”
Also, Maurice Otu, who tweets as @mrblaaast, advised Nigerians to choose SLTv, saying it is cheaper and a DSTv dish can be used to operate it.
Maurice Otu wrote, “Guys, don’t stress about it. Just buy an SLTV decoder and still use your #DSTV dish and LMB to install and connect SLTV, and you won’t miss out on live matches from all the leagues. Or are the old movies still keeping you on #dstv?”
One more user, Godgrace, who tweets as @flourishbidex expressed sorrow that she had been spending money on DSTv while SLTV provided the same service at a lower cost.
@flourishbidex wrote, “So, these are the channels SLTV offers for only 5k and I have been wasting my money on DSTv sub nice one bye bye to DStv.”
Another user, Wealth, who tweets as @Ola_Wealth001 wrote, “SLTV is the new movement, my people. God pun!sh Dstv. All their channels sub na 5kall football channels.
In April, Multichoice increased the prices of its offerings in Nigeria four months after its last increment.
It revised prices in its packages across the board with the new prices will take effect from May 1, 2024.
