Referee Jarred Gillett is going to wear a camera during Monday’s Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Manchester United, according to officials.
The Premier League emphasized that the footage from the camera will not be shown live, but rather used for a future program that aims to provide more understanding and education about the challenges of officiating in the top tier of English football.
Gillett will use a head-mounted device as part of the standard referee communication system for important matches.
The temporary use of the camera has been authorized by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), the Premier League, Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), and the clubs participating.
The Premier League expressed gratitude to Crystal Palace and Manchester United for their support with this initiative, according to a statement.
