The government of Lagos State told people living illegally in Ikoyi Towers in the Lagos Island area to leave within 48 hours.
On Saturday, Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, talked about this during a check of the estate.
In a message on X.com, Wahab said that the property had many unknown people living there, and it did not have good sanitary facilities.
He added that these people were causing problems for security and the environment, so they have to leave.
Wahab said, “We saw that the abandoned Ikoyi Towers had illegal occupants, and they were a security threat and a problem for the state.
“There were many unknown people, maybe hundreds, living there without good sanitary facilities, and we did not know what they were doing every day.
“They were told to leave within 48 hours.”
The team also checked the Osborne under bridge area after removing illegal buildings which were housing many people.
PUNCH Online reported on Wednesday that the state government found 86 separate rooms under the Dolphin Estate Bridge in Ikoyi, where tenants were paying N250,000 yearly for the temporary housing.
