A reporter from Abubakar Rimi Television assigned to the Kano State Government House, Naziru Idris Ya’u, narrowly avoided death on Friday evening when he was struck by a stray bullet at the Government House.
The origin of the stray bullet that hit the journalist around 6:30 pm on Friday is still unknown as of Saturday morning, as both security personnel and Government House officials have not commented on the incident.
After the incident, Nazir Ya’u was promptly taken to the Government House clinic where he received medical attention for his injury.
Medical staff at the clinic mentioned that the reporter was fortunate because the bullet was not fired from a close distance.
Following the event, police officers stationed at the Government House reportedly initiated an inquiry to uncover the details surrounding the incident.
At the time of writing, there had been no official statement from either the Kano Government House or the State Police Command regarding the shooting.
Efforts to contact the Director General, Media and Publicity, Sanusi Tofa, were unsuccessful as he declined multiple phone calls from our reporter.
Meanwhile, when approached, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, SP Haruna Abdullahi, stated that the incident had not been reported to the command.
“I will investigate the issue because it has not been reported to the command,” he said.
