The dark side is gaining power in the new trailer for “The Acolyte,” a new original “Star Wars” series coming to Disney+ in June. The creator and executive producer, Leslye Headland, is known for the show “Russian Doll” and sets the story hundreds of years before the Skywalker saga.
The series, “The Acolyte,” follows a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) investigating a shocking crime spree and facing a dangerous opponent (Amandla Stenberg) from his past. As they uncover more clues, they embark on a dark journey, revealing sinister forces at play.

The series seems to explore the origins of Sith Lords and similar themes, hinting at a new antagonist in the latest trailer. It offers a different experience from the episodic adventures of “The Mandalorian” and will keep fans engaged until the return of “Andor” for its final season next year.
“The Acolyte” is one of two new “Star Wars” series releasing this year. The other is “Skeleton Crew,” starring Jude Law, which follows a group of kids lost in the galaxy. Inspired by films like “The Goonies,” the show is created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford.
Headland directed the first episodes of “The Acolypte” (Eps. 101 & 102). Kogonada (Eps. 103 & 107), Alex Garcia Lopez (Eps. 104 & 105) and Hanelle Culpepper (Eps. 106 & 108) are the other directors for the series.
Composer Michael Abels, known for his work on “Get Out” and “Us,” provided the score for “The Acolyte.”
“The Acolyte” premieres on Disney+ on June 4 with the first two episodes.
