A Nigerian woman who paints nails from Plateau State, Lisha Dachor, 19, has finished her try to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest nail painting marathon by an individual.
During the event, known as a “nail-a-thon,” Dachor reportedly painted over 4,000 artificial nails in 72 hours.
On Thursday, she posted on her Facebook page, “Breaking barriers and setting records! Honored to have established a new milestone in the nail art world with the longest marathon painting of artificial nails by an individual. Thankful for the journey and the incredible support.”
On April 25, Dachor announced her plan to take on the challenge from April 28 to May 1 at Odilin’s Event Centre, behind the National Library in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.
She also mentioned that complimentary bus transportation to and from the venue would be provided for participants.
In an interview with the BBC, Dachor stated that she aims to use her record attempt to bring positive attention to Plateau State.
“People judge Plateau by its cover. Besides the ethnic problems we have, Plateau is a beautiful place. I received support from all ethnic groups while I took on this challenge,” she said.
She also undertook the challenge to change the perception about teenage mothers like herself.
“I want to give people hope, especially single mothers, because many people don’t think we have anything to offer,” she told the BBC.
Having concluded the event, Dachor is waiting for the Guinness World Records to review her attempt after receiving evidence of her lengthy nail-painting session.
The end of the “nail-a-thon” was greeted with joy and praise from various individuals, particularly netizens.
Caleb Muftwang, the Governor of Plateau State, also expressed his pride in Dachor’s “record-breaking spirit” on X.com.
“I proudly join in celebrating Lisha Seleme Dachor’s record-breaking spirit of a young talent from Plateau State on her Guinness World Record attempt for the longest nail art marathon. Your determination aligns with my administration’s policy objectives for the youth and inspires us all,” he wrote.

Alongside his United States partner, Shawn Martinez, Onakoya broke the record of Norwegian players, Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad, who played for 56 hours and 9- minutes in 2018.
The same month, a Nigerian social media entrepreneur, Clara Kronborg, broke the Guinness World Record for the longest interview with an average time of 55 hours and 24 seconds, surpassing the previous record holder, Rob Oliver from the United States, who did 37 hours and 44 minutes in 2022.
