WNBA News: Caitlin Clark’s New Nike Agreement Is Believed to Exceed $20 Million, According to Insider
It is understandable that Clark would feature Nike prominently in her first WNBA game outfit. Clark had an NIL deal with Nike during her time at Iowa and recently signed a lucrative long-term deal before her WNBA debut.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that Clark’s new Nike agreement is believed to exceed $20 million. Clark even rejected Steph Curry’s offer from Under Armour to stick with Nike.
“[Caitlin Clark] is on the brink of striking a multiyear, lucrative 8-figure agreement with Nike as her footwear sponsor,” Charania noted in an April 18 episode of the show “Run It Back.” “..Under Armour, Adidas, I’m told also made sizable offers—Stephen Curry was involved in the Under Armour pitch…but she is not signing there, and she will soon be official with Nike.”
Caitlin Clark Expects to Rely on Passing in Her First WNBA Season With Indiana Fever
Clark will face the challenge of a short break between the end of the NCAA tournament and the start of her WNBA career. The star’s WNBA preseason debut comes less than a month after Iowa’s defeat to South Carolina in the national championship game. While Clark acknowledged there will be an adjustment period, she believes her passing ability gives her an opportunity to contribute immediately in the WNBA.
“I think my passing, and I think that’s even the biggest thing throughout my college career, too is everybody always fell in love with my shooting or like my scoring,” Clark told ESPN’s Holly Rowe during an April 14 feature interview. “But I’ve always been somebody that has loved to pass the ball.
“I think that’s something I developed at a young age. So, being able to get my teammates open. Be able to hit my teammates in transition. I love to play uptempo. I love to play fast and obviously, going to the WNBA, the talent level around me is going to be really, really good. So, it should only make my job easier feeding them the ball.”
