The PUNCH reports that fifteen schools from Lagos State are set to participate in the first Athletics School Games at Yaba College of Technology on Saturday, April 27.
Seun Akinbohun, a sports enthusiast, organized the event with the support of the Lagos State Athletics Association and registration with World Athletics. The aim is to improve youth athletics in the country through an annual meet.
The event is expected to include various track and field activities such as sprints, middle-distance races, hurdles, shot put, long jump, high jump, and javelin.
Akinbohun stated at a media gathering in Lagos that the focus is on discovering hidden talents and providing a platform for them to showcase their skills, passion, and dedication. The goal of The Athletics School Games is to shape the character and ambitions of young people, instilling values of discipline, teamwork, and resilience both on and off the field, rather than just winning medals.
A founding member of TASG, Keke Hammond, expressed commitment to the continuity of the event and urged corporate organizations to show support for it. The focus is on delivering a high-quality and exceptional event that meets and exceeds global expectations.
